A visual schedule is a row of pictures that shows a child the steps of a routine in order. Instead of hearing "hurry up" ten times, your child can see what comes next and check it off.
Start with your hardest time of day
For many families that is the morning rush or bedtime. Use only that one routine for the first week.
Keep each step small and clear
A good morning schedule might be: wake up, use the potty, wash hands, get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth, shoes on, grab backpack. One picture per step, a few words under it.
Let your child do the checking
A check box or a card they move to "All done" gives them a small win at every step. Praise the effort, not perfection.
Adjust as you go
If a step always causes trouble, split it into two smaller steps. If your child knows a step well, combine it with the next one.
